Artifacts again (on thin 2-in-1 tablets only?)
A user sent me these screenshots。 At startup there were already some random black bits
And when he strokes, there's some blacks and color blocks in the strokes:
These look like due to some video RAM's data corrupted to me. Maybe due to machine too hot? I'm not sure. Any one also encountered similar issue?
I have several machines here with me but I never encountered this thing running Expresii on them.

Seeing artifacts
I also appear to be seeing artifacts on startup even after an update for Expresii today on my surface pro 7 on Windows 11. Managed a snapshot of it.

Thanks for your input cyscorp1!
The user who sent me the screenshots in this thread just informed me that his machine is surface pro 7 i5.
Together with this post https://expresii.forumotion.net/t334-artifact-on-surface-pro-7
It looks like all these artifact are on Surface Pro 7's. Any other user getting such artifact on other machines?

Thank for chipping in! I believe yours uses one of the following processors, according to this page:
11th Generation Intel Core i3-1110G4 Processor (2.50 GHz, up to 3.90 GHz with Turbo Boost, 2 Cores, 4 Threads, 6 MB Cache)
11th Generation Intel Core i5-1130G7 Processor (1.80 GHz, up to 4.00 GHz with Turbo Boost, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 8 MB Cache)
11th Generation Intel Core i5-1140G7 Processor with vPro (1.80 GHz, up to 4.20 GHz with Turbo Boost, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 8 MB Cache)
11th Generation Intel Core i7-1160G7 Processor (2.10 GHz, up to 4.40 GHz with Turbo Boost, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 12 MB Cache)
11th Generation Intel Core i7-1180G7 Processor with vPro (2.20 GHz, up to 4.60 GHz with Turbo Boost, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 12 MB Cache)
Now, it looks like so far these artifact happens with ultra-light 2-in-1 machines with Intel CPU 11th and 10th gen CPU's.

Something odd is that I restarted the program multiple times and the same thing happened, but I accidently opened the program again and left it in the background and there were no artifacts or drying to show the true color nonsense when I used it later. I actually did it again right now and it worked if I left it running a while in the background as opposed to just using it as I opened it. The color actually came out normal as opposed to black and splotchy.
I have the i3 on the list you posted btw.

Thanks Mexicancandi for giving more information! That sounds like it's related to video RAM being read wrong temporarily. Those artifact also remind me some 20 years ago when I was trying to overclock a GPU / video RAM. When I overclocked it too much, it would start showing similar artifact.

One thing I noticed is that drying the black artifact paint thing shows some true color when I paint over it.

Re: Artifacts again (on thin 2-in-1 tablets only?)
Thanks again for more details! And by drying, you mean 'settle'? Because setting the paint would move the color data from the active glaze to the dried glaze, that means you are seeing a rendering from another part of the video RAM after you settle the paint. That could explain why you see the color correctly afterwards if only the data buffer for the active glaze was 'corrupted'.

FYI, another user reported that on his SP7, he also encounter similar blotchy / black pixel artifact when the app started, and then he had to start a New artwork, possibly need to change the paper dimension too, to get back to normal.
