Hi,

I have a new Surface Pro (2017), with the new tilt pen, and was looking forward to replicating the demo from the Microsoft Surface Pro launch in Shanghai, using Expresii to practice my Chinese character calligraphy.

Unfortunately, after I successfully install Expresii, when I start the program, it hangs at 'Initializing' (see screen shot).

I've tried:

- rebooting
- uninstall, re-install
- install as Admin
- leaving the program for 30 minutes to 'Initialize'

No luck, won't start up.

Any ideas?

Sorry, currently, I don't have a new 2107 Surface Pro with me so I can't confirm with running afresh with this device.

Do you happen to have installed a Wacom driver? There's another user reported Expresii stopping at "Initializing..." but he actually has reminding wacom driver process running even when he uninstalled wacom driver. And once he cleared all remaining wacom process, Expresii runs correctly.

Hi,

thanks for getting back to me.

I have not installed any Wacom drivers, and I checked Control Panel\Device Manager, and can't see any Wacom drivers under HID/or input devices.

There is no folder under Program Files / Program Files(x86), I could not find any under Win\system32.

Maybe get hold of a new Surface Pro, as I did see your demo working at the Microsoft launch!

We don't own a new Surface Pro. Sad Those new machines were handed to us only during the launch.

I only have a Surface Pro 4, on which I just tested with a fresh install of Expresii and it ran fine.

Another thing to check is see if Windows Defender is intercepting Expresii. I have virus definition 1.251.128.0 and Expresii ran fine. It could be because your virus definition is a bit out-of-date and Windows Defender thinks Expresii is malware.

Let me know if updating Windows Defender doesn't help.

Hi,

I made sure my virus definitions were up-to-date, and also turned off Windows Defender completely, and it still stopped at "Initializing..."

Any more things to try please?

I might try it on another PC to compare, I have an old Surface Pro 1.

I just got a new Surface Pro (an i7 model). A fresh install of Expresii (both Store version 2017.09.04 and Win32 version 2017.09.06) runs fine on that device, both afresh from device reset and after Windows Update.  Currently I have Windows version 1703. OS Build 15063.540.

Sorry, but right now I don't really have a clue why Expresii doesn't work on your new Surface Pro. Sad

Tried it on my old Surface 1, add it works,so I'm at s loss too. Thanks for following up, this thread can be closed.
